And that isn't that high pitched sound rappers seem to make a lot now.


Skyr is an icelandic yogout-esque food that I highly recommend for people who are into the following things:

-Avoiding Lactose

-Reducing Sugar Intake

-Increasing Protein Intake

-Increasing Caloric Intake

-Quick/healthy food choices

-That "dairy" fix

Skyr is fantastic because, even in a flavoured version, it has much less sugar than flavoured yogourt, greek yogourt, or kefir. Also, for those of you into fitness, anything Icelandic should catch your attention. Why? Because a lot of the strongest and fittest people on the planet hail from that small country.

Anyway, here are the important facts about this food.

In a 3/4 cup serving of Raspberry Skyr you will get the following:

Protein: 17g

Fat: 3.5g

Carbs: 13g

Calories: 150

Now, that is pretty solid, and it passes one of my tests. (Grams of Protein + Grams of Fat > Grams of Carbohydrates). At this amount it would be a great snack, or part of a healthy breakfast.

If you wanted to make this snack even better, you could add 3 tablespoons of Hemp-hearts which would bring things up to...

3/4 Skyr + 3 Tablespoons Hemp-Hearts:

Protein: 27g

Fat: 13.5g

Carbs: 13g

Calories: 280 ish

This might suffice as a full meal (albeit a light one) for someone looking to lose weight, or part of a meal/a nice snack for someone looking to put on mass.

It is also worth mentioning that if you find a "plain" version, that the macro-split will be even better (less sugar).

Great for when you are in a rush....

If you are "munchin out", in a rush, or having a lazy moment and don't feel like cooking, then you can do what I do and eat the whole jug at once. If you do that, you'll get in almost 50g of protein, 10g fat, and 37g of carbs. That isn't what I would recommend for a meal each day, but if you are on the run, a jug of Skyr is better than fast-food, not eating, or having the classic healthy snack which is actually not healthy; a solo apple. (If you don't know why having an apple as a snack is a bad idea, shoot me a message).

Lastly, I must warn you that Skyr is not entirely safe. I have now learned of the Skyrgamur, who raids and steals Skyr from nice people in Iceland. So, using the immortal words of Gandalf, "Keep it secret, keep it safe."
