'3000 Drachmas'

Christmas is the merriest, and also most consumerist, time of year in the western world. Before I continue, I want to clarify that I am not calling anyone out for having nice things. I certainly have my luxury items that make me happy, but that is not the point of this blog.

Anyway, with all the ads, sales, and money from Grandpa it is important to remind yourself about what is going to actually help you reach your goals in 2019. It is you that is going to make the difference, not a thing or things. It is about how much time you are willing to invest, and how efficiently you use that time, not what you where. Lululemon won’t make you a better yogi. Reebok shorts won’t improve your squat technique.

If 2019 is your year to get more fit, then make the commitments that matter. Before you say eating healthy is too expensive, make sure you don’t have $1000 worth of leggings in your closet. Before you say a gym membership or coaching is too expensive, make sure you don’t spend $150 a month on supplements that don’t do anything. It should be glaringly obvious how much better of an investment in your self healthy groceries are compared to make-up, fancy clothes, useless supplements and other miscellaneous hype.

I have worked out in “third-world gyms” where most of the guys don’t change into their workout clothes, but instead simply take off their shirt and shoes, and make it work in jeans. In the absence of brands, franchises, and even work-out specific clothing people were in amazing shape without all the modern fitness trappings of the western world. What does that tell me?

Putting in the work is what matters.

Showing up is what counts.

You already have everything you need to become the person you want to be.

The rest is just noise.
